Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia)

Red buckeyes are flowering in the arboretum! The arboretum's original red buckeye plants are pictured above. They can be found growing in the shade of a lobolly pine and a water oak. These buckeyes are doing very well here, producing numerous large flowers, and this past fall they produced an impressive number of seeds. You can read about the successful germination project here.
