Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia)

At the end of 2019, more than 30 red buckeye seeds were planted in the arboretum. You can read about that germination project on an old blog post, found here. Today, pictured in the above photo, we have our best and brightest on display: this is the most vigorous looking specimen from those seeds. It grows in full shade in the middle of a gradual slope. You can find it near Rotary Hall. It has big new leaves and measures more than a foot tall.
